AVERAGE, MIN and MAX
Find the average, the smallest and the largest figure in a list, and see why an empty cell and a zero give different averages.
Task 1The average, the smallest and the largest4 questions
Three functions each describe a list of numbers with one figure. Each one takes a range, just as SUM does.
- =AVERAGE(B2:B6)
- the total divided by how many numbers there are
- =MIN(B2:B6)
- the smallest number
- =MAX(B2:B6)
- the largest number
A function can be part of a longer formula. =MAX(B2:B6)-MIN(B2:B6) is the gap between the largest and the smallest.
