How to make a drop-down list
A drop-down list lets staff pick a name in place of typing it, so a misspelt customer never splits a total. Set one up and see what it lets in.
Task 1Why one typo splits a total2 questions
A total by customer only works if each name is typed the same way every time. SUMIF and a pivot table treat Holin School and Hollin School as two different customers.
| A | B | C | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Order | Customer | Net |
| 2 | 3401 | Hollin School | 120.00 |
| 3 | 3402 | Quay Dental | 80.00 |
| 4 | 3403 | Holin School | 60.00 |
| 5 | 3404 | Hollin School | 45.00 |
| 6 | 3405 | Moss Lane Vets | 150.00 |
Nothing warns you. The total just comes out too small, and the missing amount sits on a line of its own.
