Task 1Why costs are coded2 questions
A cost code is a short label put on every invoice, timesheet and payroll line. It tells the accounts system where the cost belongs, so that costs of the same kind are added together.
- Numeric code
- digits only, such as 100110
- Alphabetic code
- letters only, such as CUTDM
- Alphanumeric code
- letters and digits together, such as CUT110
A code is quicker to enter than a description, and it can only mean one thing.
