Task 1Warning signs3 questions

Most payments follow a pattern: the same suppliers, similar amounts, an invoice behind each one. An unusual payment breaks that pattern.

  • A supplier nobody has heard of, or a payment with no invoice
  • A request to change a supplier's bank details
  • Pressure to pay today, without the usual checks
  • An amount just under someone's authorisation limit
  • The same invoice number appearing twice

A request to change bank details is checked by phoning the supplier on the number already held on file, never a number given in the request.
